What people come to me with

People pleasing and perfectionism can show up at work, at home and in your relationships. Here are some things people come to counselling to work through.

Never quite enough

You put a lot of pressure on yourself to do things right. Even when you’re doing your best, it feels like it’s never quite enough.

Saying yes when you mean no

You have a hard time saying no, whether it’s your boss, your partner, or your family, because you don’t want to disappoint anyone. So, you keep saying yes, and you later resent it.

Replaying conversations

You replay conversations in your head long after they’ve ended. Did I sound rude? Why did I say that? Are they mad at me?

Afraid of getting it wrong

You check and re-check, and put off starting until you’re sure you can do it right. One small mistake can stay with you for days.

Putting yourself last

Sometimes you’re not even sure what you want anymore, because you’ve put yourself last for so long that you’ve stopped checking.

How counselling can help

Understand why it keeps happening

We look at why these patterns keep coming up, and how they affect you at work, at home and in your relationships.

Go easier on yourself

Work through the guilt and self-criticism, and change how you relate to difficult thoughts and feelings.

Move forward on your terms

Get clear on what you want, practice saying no, and find new ways to move forward in alignment with your values.

When something stays stuck. Sometimes a moment stays with you long after it’s over, like a mistake you can’t stop replaying, and talking it through isn’t enough. That’s when Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) can help. Learn more about ART
